St. Paul’s Community Concerns Committee represents the congregation in community activities and keeps the congregation informed of local needs. The committee coordinates with local churches and groups to implement the church’s mission within the community. One way is by holding regular collection events throughout the year for these groups.

The committee does not distribute cash. Instead, after assessing how best to handle each individual request, the committee will provide information about groups and organizations that are best able to help. These organizations can be church-oriented or public/government-sponsored. Any spiritual concerns are referred to the Elders and Pastor.

Annual Collections & Drives

January

Souper Bowl Sunday Soup Collection: cans of soup are placed in a donation box as a “vote” for who will win the Super Bowl. Everything collected is given to the Marion Food Pantry. Turn out is always good, exceeding expectations year after year!

April & November

Food and items for the Marion Food Pantry run biannually. Often several hundred items are brought in. During the Easter season, Easter Baskets are also made and donated to Four Oaks facility.

August

Backpacks and journals are collected for Tanager Place which helps young people who would otherwise not have these items for school.

September

Congregants can donate caps, coats, mittens, and scarves for school-age boys and girls in our local community. Items are given to Marion Cares.

All Year Long

Clothing and food are collected for the Marion Food Pantry through out the year. Seasonally-appropriate clothes can be taken to the church office. A barrel is set up in the church narthex to collect food. Congregation members also can donate money to the church, which the committee will use to take care of emergency situations and continue doing God’s work.
